New Zealand's Toll Roads

There are three primary toll roads in New Zealand, all located on the North Island:

  • Northern Gateway Toll Road: Located north of Auckland.
  • Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road: East of Tauranga.
  • Takitimu Drive Toll Road: In Tauranga.

Toll Charges

Charges vary depending on the vehicle type:

  • Light Vehicles (including motorcycles):
    • Northern Gateway: $2.60
    • Tauranga Eastern Link: $2.30
    • Takitimu Drive: $2.10
  • Heavy Vehicles (3500kg and over):
    • Northern Gateway: $5.20
    • Tauranga Eastern Link: $5.60
    • Takitimu Drive: $5.40

How to Pay Tolls

  • Online: Visit the official tolls website and pay using your vehicle's registration number. Payment methods include Visa, MasterCard, or POLi.
  • Account Holders: If you use toll roads frequently, consider setting up a toll road account to cover all roads and register multiple vehicles.
  • In Person: You can pay in cash or by debit/credit card at selected service stations for a $1.50 transaction fee.
  • By Phone: Call 0800 40 20 20 to make payments.

Unpaid Tolls and Fines

If you don't pay within five working days, you'll receive a Toll Payment Notice with an additional administration fee of $4.90. Failure to pay this notice within 28 days can result in the debt being passed to a collection agency and an infringement notice with a $40 fee per unpaid toll.
